A new federal lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a young girl after a man she met on the popular platforms Roblox and Discord had allegedly broken into her home, sexually assaulted her, and recorded the abuse. The lawsuit was filed by Anapol Weiss and Cooper Masterman in Galveston County, Texas.
“Her life has been horrifically altered, and it never should have happened,” said Anapol Weiss shareholder Alexandra Walsh, one of the lead attorneys on the case. “Roblox and Discord prioritized profits over safety, and now they must be held accountable.”
The complaint alleges that Roblox and Discord both knew of the dangers posed by their platforms and failed to implement the safety mechanisms necessary to prevent exploitation. Despite marketing themselves as child-friendly and safe, the companies allegedly prioritized user growth and engagement over meaningful protections.
Anapol Weiss shareholder Kristen Gibbons Feden noted, “They failed to take the basic safety measures that are necessary in order to prevent exploitation, and in fact, that is exactly what the complaint that we filed today really outlines.”
Sadly, this is not an isolated case. Anapol Weiss filed a lawsuit against Roblox and Discord in February on behalf of a 13-year-old boy from New Jersey, as well as a lawsuit in April on behalf of a girl in Florida. In both cases, the children had been groomed and sexually exploited on the platforms. Anapol Weiss is currently investigating hundreds of similar cases throughout the country.
Government authorities are also taking action. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office recently filed a consumer protection lawsuit against Discord, describing the platform as a “hunting ground for predators.” That legal action accuses Discord of knowingly allowing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to be exchanged on its servers and failing to take appropriate steps to remove it or report it in a timely manner. Simultaneously, the State of Florida has issued a subpoena against Roblox as part of its own investigation into platform safety and corporate accountability.
