FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 11, 2025 — Anapol Weiss Partner Pat Huyett released the following statement today after the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade advanced the Safer Guarding of Adolescents from Malicious Interactions on Network Games (GAMING) Act:

“While we’re very encouraged with Congress’ focus on the unspeakable harms and tragic consequences caused to kids by online gaming platforms, the bill passed out of the Subcommittee today does not fully protect kids. I am hopeful that lawmakers will keep their commitments to working across the aisle to improve the protections in the bill and preserve families' rights. We cannot give dangerous platforms like Roblox cover while children remain at serious risk.”

Parents of children hurt by online gaming platforms like Roblox also spoke out on the bill:

“As a mother who lost my 15-year-old son to suicide after he was exploited by an online predator, I can’t stay silent. The SAFER Gaming Act falls short of what our children need to be fully protected from predators on gaming platforms like Roblox. Without bold congressional action, more families will be burying their children, or their kids will be spiraling into mental health crises. Our kids deserve strong safeguards—before more lives are lost,” said Becca Dallas (California).

“My son was exploited by a predator on Roblox, and the trauma has devastated our family. The Safer GAMING Act has good intentions, but it still leaves kids exposed and could let some platforms dodge real responsibility. Families need real protections, and I am hopeful Congress will hear our pleas,” said Steve (Washington).
