A new federal lawsuit filed by Anapol Weiss and Cooper Masterman in Gavelston, Texas accuses Roblox Corp. and Discord Inc. of failing to protect a young girl from a predator she met on the platforms. The lawsuit alleges that the man groomed her online and snuck into her bedroom, sexually assaulted her, and recorded the assault.
Often marketed to parents as kid-friendly, the lawsuit highlights significant and dangerous child-safety gaps on Roblox and Discord, even when parental controls are enabled. The victim’s mother used parental controls on the platforms, and even had disabled certain chat features, but it didn’t stop the man from being able to communicate or sexually exploit her daughter.
The young girl “now she struggles constantly with fear, moments of dissociation, and she has basically lost her sense of safety and innocence,” Anapol Weiss shareholder Kristen Feden told ABC 13.
This is the third lawsuit Anapol Weiss has filed in the past few months against Roblox and Discord. In February, the firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of a 13-year-old boy from New Jersey, and in April, the firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of a girl in Florida.
Anapol Weiss is investigating hundreds of similar cases across the country.
