Juul & Vaping Side Effects: The Negative Side Effects You Can’t Afford to Ignore

Posted on December 14, 2020

More and more users are discovering that Juul side effects can have long-lasting repercussions. As it becomes more popular, the side effects of vaping are becoming more readily apparent, especially those bad effects of vaping that can lead to medical complications. Research continues to show the risks of vaping, even as manufacturers work to convince the public it is still a safe, fun hobby. Before you choose to “chuck clouds” there are some serious consequences to consider.

What is Vaping?

Vaping is an alternative to smoking cigarettes. It’s been portrayed as no more than inhaling harmless water vapor, but the truth is far different. Vape solutions referred to as e-juice, juice, or nic salts, are a chemical mixture containing known carcinogens, flavorings, preservatives, and other compounds. While some may be safe for other applications, when mixed together, inhaling this chemical slurry can lead to Juul side effects you don’t want to suffer from. These solutions commonly include:

  • Nicotine: An addictive carcinogen, this is the primary active ingredient in vape juice. It acts as a powerful stimulant.
  • Vegetable Glycerin: One of the two main carrier chemicals used to create a juice that holds flavor but creates clouds when vaped.
  • Propylene Glycol: When balanced with glycerin, this synthetic chemical creates the base solution for most vaping liquids.
  • Diacetyl: Used in flavorings, diacetyl and a range of analogous chemical compounds create the flavors vape enthusiasts love but are so dangerous some are no longer allowed in food products.

This chemical solution is loaded into a tank or pre-filled cartridge on your vape. The tank has a wick that carries a small amount of the solution to a heating coil which is attached to a battery. When the device is activated, the coil heats up, atomizing the chemical solution in the wick and turning it into a vapor. As you inhale, this vapor is drawn from the chamber into your lungs.

Side effects from using a Juul can start as quickly as the vapor is absorbed. This absorption happens primarily in two ways. It can enter your bloodstream through your mucosa in a vascular area, such as your mouth and throat, or in your lungs as your body inhales. The vapor travels through your mouth and throat into your bronchi, the two main air passageways into your lungs, along the way coating the surfaces it comes in contact with.

The bronchi branch off into smaller air passages called bronchioles, which become increasingly narrow until ending in small sacs called alveoli. This is where the remaining aerosolized vapor passes into the blood and is carried through the body, causing both the desired results for the user and the side effects of Juul vaping that they may not intend.

Adverse Effects Of Vaping

There are quite a few potential side effects of vaping. While in many cases these can be mild, severe reactions can occur and over time, even mild or unnoticed Juul side effects can turn into potentially serious health complications. It’s important to understand the risks associated with vaping and learn the signs and symptoms that you may need to kick the habit or even see a medical practitioner.

Cardiac Issues

Nicotine is a powerful stimulant, and vape liquids contain a purified form that can hit harder than that found in traditional nicotine sources. As it’s absorbed, blood pressure and heart rate both increase. If they increase too much it can lead to heart palpitations, dangerously high blood pressure, a stroke, or even a heart attack

Lung Issues

Many people choose vaping to get away from cigarettes, thinking of it as a safe alternative. While they may not be as bad as tobacco, Juul side effects can be just as devastating. Vaping can cause popcorn lung, a permanent injury that damages your bronchioles and leaves you short of breath for the rest of your life. Recently, EVALI (E-cigarette and Vaping Associated Lung Injury) made the news after becoming a public health crisis that forced the FDA to address some vaping manufacturers to cut down on the bad effects of vaping.

Cancer

Nicotine is a known carcinogen, and several other ingredients used in some vape juices are known or suspected carcinogens as well. Carcinogens are chemical compounds that can alter the structure of your cells, increasing your risk of developing cancer.

Sexual Health

The side effects of vaping may not usually have as immediate of an impact on sexual health as traditional cigarettes do, but as the adverse health effects take their toll, they can still lead to complications. Diminished lung capacity and high blood pressure can both have an effect on your physical body’s responses, leaving you tired and with a diminished libido. This can create emotional pain, suffering, and feelings of alienation in your personal relationships.

Addiction

While these health conditions are all serious, one that most users face is addiction. Nicotine is an addictive chemical, and once your body starts relying on it, it doesn’t want to stop. Manufacturers not only know this, they rely on it to keep you coming back for more, which is part of why higher concentration liquids are produced.

Vaping manufacturers know the risks and the science behind them. The formulations they choose to use can still be dangerous, and in many cases are entirely unknown by the consumer as the exact chemical mixes are considered “proprietary”. This may not only be actively hurting consumers but fails to give them the warning they need to make an informed decision about their health and vaping.

Vaping Is Dangerous

Juul side effects can require expensive treatments and may require lifelong care while leaving you with a reduced quality of life or shorter lifespan. When you’re injured by an unsafe product, the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer may be liable for those injuries. If their liability can be established, you may be owed compensation for your medical bills, lost wages, pain, and suffering, but you’ll need the help of an experienced attorney.
