Anapol Weiss and Wagstaff & Cartmell filed a lawsuit in California on behalf of a Wabash County, Indiana girl sexually assaulted by a predator who had groomed and exploited her on Roblox. This lawsuit comes as the NJ Attorney General and the State of Florida have taken legal action against Roblox.
SAN MATEO, California, May 27, 2025 — Anapol Weiss and Wagstaff & Cartmell have filed a complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo on behalf of a Wabash County girl sexually assaulted by a predator who had groomed her on the Roblox platform. The complaint, Jane Doe v. Roblox Corporation, in combination with last month’s actions by the New Jersey Attorney General and the State of Florida against Discord and Roblox, underscores growing concerns about the rampant dangers children face online and adds to the mounting legal pressure confronting these tech giants.
The lawsuit filed on Monday, May 19, 2025 in California follows similar complaints filed by Anapol Weiss in February on behalf of a 13-year-old New Jersey boy whose family moved from the state after a predator showed up near their home, in mid-April on behalf of a Florida girl who had been groomed on the platform starting when she was 12, and in late April on behalf of a Texas girl who had been exploited and groomed on the platform, and ultimately assaulted by a predator. In each case, the minor was groomed on Roblox and later coerced into sharing explicit content, a progression that mirrors a pattern of predatory behavior playing out across these platforms.
In the case of the Wabash County girl, she joined the Roblox gaming platform when she was around nine years old. An adult predator on the platform identified and methodically groomed her on the app, posing as a fellow teenager to manipulate her trust and engage in sexually explicit conversations with her. The predator was then able to use the app to convince the girl to create an account on another online platform, where he escalated his predation to an even more disturbing level.
The predator then traveled to her home state of Indiana, where he sexually assaulted her and recorded the assault. Months later, he returned to Indiana and took her in his car to Georgia, where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted.
“This young girl went through something no child should ever experience,” said Alexandra Walsh, shareholder at Anapol Weiss. She was groomed, exploited, and assaulted, all because Roblox fails to protect its users. This is the fourth case we’ve filed, and every single one tells the same story: Roblox is putting its profits ahead of children’s safety.”
The complaint alleges that Roblox knew of the dangers posed by its platform and failed to implement the safety mechanisms necessary to prevent exploitation. Despite marketing itself as child-friendly and safe, the company allegedly prioritized user growth and engagement over meaningful protections.
“For too long, Roblox has treated child safety as an afterthought,” said Anapol Weiss shareholder Kristen Feden. “The consequences have been devastating. This lawsuit is a step toward justice and a wake-up call for an industry that has failed our children.”
“This case exposes a brutal truth: children are being harmed in the very spaces that promise to protect them,” said Wagstaff & Cartmell attorney J. Kirk Gozal. Our lawsuit is not just about one child’s suffering, it’s about holding Roblox accountable for its systemic failures that have devastated the lives of countless children.”
Government authorities are also taking action against Roblox and other platforms on which children have been preyed upon and sexually exploited. Last month, the State of Florida issued a subpoena against Roblox as part of the state’s investigation into platform safety and corporate accountability. In addition, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office recently filed a consumer protection lawsuit against Discord, describing the platform as a “hunting ground for predators.”
“The legal actions taken by New Jersey and Florida reinforce what our lawsuits have already made clear: these platforms are not safe for children,” said Walsh. “When states take action, it’s a powerful confirmation that this is not just a personal tragedy, it’s a systemic crisis demanding accountability.”
