FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARLTON, NJ, January 26, 2026 — Anapol Weiss has filed a civil lawsuit against Cherokee High School, the Lenape Regional High School District, and the Board of Education on behalf of a former student. The lawsuit alleges institutional failures by school officials that allowed a teacher to sexually abuse the former student over several years.

The complaint alleges the teacher groomed and sexually abused the former student on multiple occasions. According to the complaint, clear warning signs regarding the teacher’s conduct were unacknowledged by the school’s employees, implying violations of New Jersey’s Child Sexual Abuse Law. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the harm the student suffered as a result of the defendants’ alleged negligence.

“Every student deserves to have access to a safe learning environment,” said Ashley Garland, Associate at Anapol Weiss. “Cases such as this are an example of what happens when accountability is neglected at the cost of protecting students’ personal boundaries.”

The teacher was arrested in October 2018 and later convicted on related criminal charges. The civil lawsuit asserts claims including multiple counts of negligence, assault & battery, and intentional inflection of emotional distress.
