Bravo CF Capsule Lawsuit Lawyers Helping Patients Injured by Recalled Devices
The Bravo calibration-free (CF) reflux testing system is used to help doctors diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Medtronic Bravo CF capsule recall lawsuit attorneys are investigating injuries associated with this medical device, a testing system that uses a delivery device to attach a small capsule to the esophagus during an endoscopy. The capsule measures acid levels and sends readings to a recorder the patient wears for several days.
In August 2026, Medtronic and its subsidiary Given Imaging, Inc. recalled certain Bravo CF capsule delivery devices because the capsule may not attach to the esophagus as intended or may not release properly from the delivery device. In September 2026, the FDA classified the recall as Class I, its most serious category, meaning use of the device may cause serious injury or death. As of August 10, 2026, Medtronic had reported 184 serious injuries linked to the problem.
Our Medtronic Bravo CF capsule recall lawsuit attorneys are investigating cases for patients who underwent esophageal pH testing with a Bravo CF capsule and later experienced complications, including esophageal tears, bleeding, airway obstruction, or the need for surgery to remove the capsule or repair damage.

About the Bravo CF Reflux Testing System
The Bravo system is a wireless test that measures how often stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. During an upper endoscopy, a doctor uses a delivery device to attach a small capsule to the lining of the esophagus. Over the next several days, the capsule records pH levels and transmits them to a receiver worn by the patient. The capsule is designed to detach on its own and pass naturally through the digestive tract.
When the capsule fails to attach or release as designed, it can tear the esophagus, cause bleeding, or come loose and be inhaled or block the airway.

- Recall timeline: Medtronic notified customers on August 6, 2026. The FDA issued an early alert on August 27, 2026, and classified the recall as Class I on September 11, 2026.
- Reason for the recall: the capsule may not attach to the esophagus or detach from the delivery device as intended, possibly due to a problem with the component that controls capsule deployment

- Number of devices: more than 120,000 devices are estimated to be in commerce
- What hospitals were told: stop using affected devices, quarantine any unused inventory, and return it to Medtronic
This Isn’t the First Bravo Recall. In June 2025, Medtronic recalled a smaller group of Bravo CF lots for the same type of failure. According to the company, the cause of the problem is different this time.
